The Hejaz Railway: a strategic corridor to bypass the Strait of Hormuz

Two agreements have been signed to relaunch the route linking Istanbul, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, with possible branches into Lebanon, extending in future as far as Oman and reaching the Indian Ocean. The aim: to create a strategic trade corridor along the railway lines originally designed to exercise control within the empire. Two regional giants, following the NATO-style military agreement, are joining forces for economic reasons.
